OPEN CALL – Culture Vultures & Rhubaba Choir!
“Culture – a plant producing prize blooms of opera, ballet, theatre and art. Exhibited annually at the Edinburgh Festival and picked by the discerning few who descend on the city to sample the blossom- The Culture Vultures. But without the roots and the main stem the plant would die.”
‘Culture Vultures’ is a musical written by Donald Campbell and Helen Crummy that was first performed as a part of the 1977 Craigmillar Festival.
We will be restaging elements of the original script, music and performance as a part of our August exhibition. More details will soon follow.
Embassy is collaborating with Rhubaba Choir to perform songs from the play as a part of the show. We are currently looking for new members to join the choir, which was initially begun by Rhubaba to offer artists a ‘resource of collective voices as a material’.
The first rehearsal will take place on Tuesday the 14th of July. Rehearsals will then be held weekly on Tuesday evenings at Embassy from 6.30-8.30pm, with a final rehearsal on Thursday 13th August ahead of the opening performance on Saturday 15th of August. Food will be provided at rehearsals.*
