EMBASSY Membership
EMBASSY Gallery is a membership-based organisation. Our members form the core of our community and provide the committee and trustees with much needed support. While exhibitions, talks and workshops at EMBASSY are always free and open to everyone, members are invited to special events like monthly crits, socials and gallery trips. Members are given the opportunity to vote in our annual general meeting (AGM) and contribute to the shape of future projects at EMBASSY. They can also submit proposals for community takeovers and use our space free-of-charge to host short-run exhibitions and events. By becoming a member, you can support EMBASSY’s programme, meet other artists and art workers and help shape and ensure the future of the gallery.
You can become a member by clicking on ‘Join as a member’ or following the tab above. Please make sure you fill out the ‘equalities monitoring form’ once you’ve signed up. The annual membership costs for 2026 are:
£2 – Low Income
£8 – Waged
£15 / £30 / £50 – Solidarity
Membership auto-renews annually, so please make sure you cancel your membership via Stripe or send us an email if you do not want your membership to continue.
EMBASSY Membership Benefits
Members’ Crits
Every month, we organise a crit for up to 5 of our members. This is a chance to share work in progress and gather responses from committee members and fellow artists. Occasionally, EMBASSY will arrange for guest artists to attend Members’ Crits and offer feedback to the presenting artists. To book a slot, make sure you keep an eye on our ‘Programme’, Instagram and Members’ Newsletter as spaces will be offered on a first-come-first-serve basis.
Members’ Show
Our annual Members’ Show is a chance for EMBASSY’s members to submit works of all mediums to a salon-style exhibition. There are accompanying publications and a reading event, as well as performance nights and film screenings. The next Members’ Show will take place in Winter 2026.
Community Takeover Programme
Members are invited to submit proposals for our Community Takeover programme. Community Takeovers are short-run exhibitions, events, talks and workshops facilitated by our members in our space. If you are looking for a gallery to host an exhibition you’ve been planning, a room to run a reading group in or a venue for a talk or performance, consider applying for a Community Takeover with us.
If you are an activist or community group looking for a private place to meet and hold closed events, get in touch via our email – membership is not a requirement for these kinds of events.
To propose a Community Takeover, please read all the information on this form and fill out your details. Our open programme runs alongside our core programme, so we are unfortunately unable to fit every event into our calendar, but we will do our best – it helps us considerably if you can be flexible with dates and provide us with all the information required upfront.
Please note: Community Takeover exhibitions do not usually run for longer than a weekend. If you have any questions, please do send us an email.
Members’ Socials
EMBASSY arranges regular socials for our members, giving artists and art workers in Edinburgh chances to meet and form connections. These might include gallery trips in Edinburgh or elsewhere, evenings at the pub, or just drop in chats at our space. If you’ve got any ideas for a members’ social, please do get in touch via email, especially if you’re planning an exhibition or event you’d like us to visit!
