MEMBERS SHOW 2025 - SALON TRADERS

The 31st of January has passed, you’ve paid your taxes, it’s a fresh start, a new you. You are the owner, and you are the business.

EMBASSY’s Member Show is back and is calling all sole traders, freelancers, small business owners, self-employees and artists to submit their returns to:

  SALON TRADERS

Leaning into the foundations of our basement, we are embracing the ways in which EMBASSY aims to provide stability to its members, a base from which to build from.

Set up as a salon trader: step by step

As in previous tax years the EMBASSY members show will be an all-encompassing opportunity to test as well as showcase your work, in the company of a diverse, friendly and supportive audience, to celebrate your practice, and to support the continued running of EMBASSY.

Anything you wish to showcase is welcome: Completed or work in progress, finished, unfinished, orchestrated or spontaneous.

Work in ALL MEDIA will be accepted. There is no theme for works submitted.

Current members may submit one artwork for exhibition (+ one performance proposal) as part of their annual membership. New or lapsed members can join or renew their membership of EMBASSY, which is priced on a sliding scale. Please see link above!

PERFORMANCES

We invite submissions for live sound, music, spoken word and performance to take place at the opening night on Friday 21st of February.

These could be things that require a dedicated audience or more durational happenings to take place within the exhibition over the course of the evening. We ask that performances that require the full attention of the audience are kept under 15 minutes in length, however durational happenings can run for up to the full three hours of the opening.

We welcome performances in English and BSL, for performances in other languages we ask for an English translation of the text to allow for the text to be BSL interpreted.

The performances will be interpreted by a BSL interpreter. We ask that a transcript of any speech included in the performance is provided by Midnight Friday 7th of February to allow the BSL interpreter to prepare and to allow us to make transcripts. If the performance features music or an audio track, please supply this in advance via the form below. The transcript text will be made available as a print out for the audience to read alongside the performances.

Performers will be required to come to the Gallery for 5pm on the night of the exhibition opening. This will allow a one hour window to acquaint yourself with the BSL interpreter allowing them the opportunity to ask any questions about the performance. Attending this meeting is a compulsory part of performing in the evening.

If you wish to perform please fill out the form below  by Midnight 7th of February. In the email please include a short description of the work you wish to present live, details of its duration, any audio files, a transcript of any speech and finally any additional technical requirements.

Before the film screenings we will be hosting our AGM (Annual General Meeting).

Food will be provided! We will be discussing:
  • how much money we have, where it comes from and how it’s all being used
  • what we did in 2024
  • plans for 2025
  • voting on our board of trustees
  • your feedback - what do you want from us!

WRITTEN WORK:

We also encourage submissions from artists whose practice relates to forms of text: writing, poetry, stories, recipes- any written text and accompanying images.

We will be creating a pamphlet of text based work for the exhibition. Members are welcome to perform their text at our closing/reading night on Saturday 15th of March.

Please submit your written submissions by Midnight Monday 10th of February using the form below, which also allows you to let us know if you would like to read/perform your text on the closing night.

If you have a zine, book, or document  you wish to display we will be displaying these in our front space. You will be responsible for printing this and dropping it off during the times detailed in the physical work section below.
