Joining the Oporational Comittee in June 2025
EMBASSY is seeking a new Operational Committee member to join us in June. Applications will be open from 26th March-23rd April. In preparation for writing your application we recommend you attend our info session on 20th March 5-7pm. Here you can chat with our outgoing committee member Lucas Priest to gain a first hand perspective of what it takes to co-organise EMBASSY. He will be discussing accessibility, eligibility, capacity, and commitment. Lucas will NOT be sitting on the interview panel or reading any application so you can ask him ANYTHING!
From fixing the toilet and installing shows to writing funding applications and everything in-between being on the Operational Committee is a dynamic role that includes (a lot of) hands on physical work, creative decision making and (of course) admin! You will be working collectively alongside Alice Disken, Ezra Berrnico and Millie Player (current operational committee) within a non-hierarchical environment. As well as programming and installation (the fun bit) you will be responsible for accounting, budgeting, marketing, reporting (to Creative Scotland), fundraising and ensuring the safety and maintenance of our building. You are also responsible to our Board of Trustees who oversee the long-term vision of EMBASSY.
The role is paid 15hrs a week at 14.63 an hour on a freelance ‘worker’ contract. Additional voluntary hours will be required when necessary to meet specific deadlines e.g. Exhibition openings, funding applications, or workshop prep. (This is required surprisingly often and can occur on a weekly basis, we will discuss this in more detail at the info session). We are looking for someone to hold the position for 2 years.
- Specific details for how to apply and interview dates will be published alongside the Open Call on 26th March. -
Attendance of our info session will not be considered as part of your application, it's more for you than us, EMBASSY is not a normal workplace so we want to share as fully as we can the realities and scope of the role, so you can best understand if it's something that will work for you.
Depending upon availability Lucas may be able to meet with you individually if you cannot make this session. Please email DM or email embassygalleryedinburgh@gmail.com
Please only attend if you are eligible to apply;
- You currently live in Edinburgh or the surrounding area or can move to Edinburgh if offered the position.
- You are not a student (or will have finished your studies by end of June 2025) - We will not accept Phd candidates
- You can commit to the position for 2 years.
- You are able to attend our weekly in-person co-working day on Tuesdays 10am-5pm
