Hiring: Operational Committee Member
EMBASSY Gallery is currently looking for two new Operational Committee Members to join the organisation in May/June. The deadline to apply using the online application form is 23:59 on Sunday 19th April.
EMBASSY Gallery (est. 2003) is an artist-led organisation based in Edinburgh that seeks to support early career artists through the facilitation of exhibitions and events. The Operational Committee is responsible for the day-to-day running of EMBASSY. This involves programming events and exhibitions, liaising with artists and performers, installing exhibitions, facilitating Community Takeovers and members’ opportunities, writing funding applications, budgeting and tracking the organisation’s finances, updating and developing policies, maintenance of the space and equipment, reporting to funders and the Board of Trustees, monitoring communications and ultimately deciding on the direction of the organisation within its aims. We want to emphasise that while there will be plenty of opportunity to organise exhibitions and events, this is not a purely curatorial or programming role; the administrative workload involved in keeping the space running is substantial.
Operational Committee Members are paid £15.20 per hour for 15 hours of work per week, although additional in-kind hours are sometimes required. The position of Operational Committee is one of high responsibility and commitment and there may be times where you are expected to work beyond your paid hours in response to external deadlines, emergency situations or event openings. We try to avoid this as much as possible, yet we are unable to avoid it completely. If you have any questions about this, feel free to send us an email.
EMBASSY is a non-hierarchical working environment, and as such, the Operational Committee shares responsibility in all areas of work and must encourage collective involvement in decision making. Operational Committee Members are expected to support one another’s working patterns, and the organisation’s working structure can be adjusted to account for different working styles, access requirements, additional caring or working responsibilities where non-hierarchical decision making and a fair division of labour can be maintained.
Eligibility and Important Information
- The Operational Committee meets in-person on Tuesdays between 10:00–17:00. You must be available to attend these meetings. - Applicants must live in Edinburgh or the wider Lothian Region
- Students, including postgraduate and PhD students, are not eligible. However, your application will be considered if you are completing your studies in June 2026.
