‘Culture Vulture’ Radio Broadcast (12:00-14:00) / Drop-in play reading session (16:00-19:00)
As part of ‘Culture Vultures’, EMBASSY will be conducting a special broadcast on community radio station ehfm looking into the history of the Craigmillar Festival Society. We’ll be replaying an episode of ‘framework’, first broadcast in 2023, that discusses the Festival Society, featuring an interview with Craigmillar Now’s archivist Anna. The show also looked at the life and work of photographer Sandra George, who worked extensively in Craigmillar, through interviews with her son Tyler and her best friend Irene. From 13:00, there will be a live interview with Andrew Crummy, son of festival founder Helen Crummy. We’ll be on air between 12:00 and 14:00 – you can tune in at ehfm.live!
Starting from 16:00, we’ll also be gathered in Embassy’s space at 7 Ferry Road to collectively read through extracts from the community musicals written and performed by Craigmillar Festival Society throughout the 1970s and 80s. Join us to learn more about the productions and to look through scans of the scripts held in the archive at Craigmillar Now. We’ll also be looking at other plays performed in Craigmillar, such as Brecht’s ‘The Resistable Rise of Arturo Ui’ (1941). This will be a drop-in session, so feel free to come by at any time between 16:00 and 19:00.
Outside of the reading session, the exhibition ‘Culture Vultures’ will be exceptionally closed between 12:00-16:00 on Friday 28th. It will be open to view on Thursday (16:00-19:00), Saturday and Sunday (12:00-17:00), as well as the following week during our regular hours.
